The government of Japan has created the Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing School, committed to educating and nurturing the next generation of people who will be responsible for sustaining the nation. The students have a high level of autonomy to replicate real life closely. The series is narrated from the view of Kiyotaka Ayanokōji, who is a meek and humble boy, an incompetent friend maker who would sooner keep to himself, but endowed with unparalleled intellectual prowess and spectacular physical capacity. He is enrolled in Class-D, which the school sends off its worst students, generally held to be "defective". Soon, after encountering Suzune Horikita and Kikyō Kushida, both students in the same class, the scenario alters and he engages himself in so many affairs while his idea about a normal high school life keeps getting disrupted and takes a hit on his sanity.
