On April 16, 2022, Deadline revealed that Netflix was producing a spin-off series based on the Castlevania universe, after concluding its initial animated series, with an entirely new set of characters. Kevin Kolde and Clive Bradley were also declared as showrunners and executive producers on behalf of Kolde's Project 51 Productions banner. Powerhouse Animation was also confirmed to be returning as the lead production house while Sam and Adam Deats were to direct some episodes from the first season. DR Movie from South Korea provided outsourced animation services.

On June 10, 2022, at Netflix's Geeked Week virtual event, it was revealed that the series is called Castlevania: Nocturne. The cast of the series was announced on July 27, 2023.

On October 6, 2023, a week after the release of the first season, Netflix renewed the series for season two.

Castlevania: Nocturne premiered on Netflix on September 28, 2023. The first three episodes were also screened ahead of schedule at the Netflix virtual showcase "DROP 01".

The second season was released on January 16, 2025.
