Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World, simply called Re:Zero and also titled Re: Life in another world from zero,[d] is a Japanese light novel series by Tappei Nagatsuki with illustrations by Shin'ichirō Ōtsuka. It began serialization as a web novel on the user-created site Shōsetsuka ni Narō in 2012. 40 light novels, six side story volumes, and twelve short story collections have been released by Media Factory under their MF Bunko J imprint. The series follows Subaru Natsuki, a hikikomori who is suddenly transported to another world while walking home from the convenience store.

Plot:

Subaru, an ordinary high school student, is suddenly sent to another world. He soon learns he can rewind time when he dies, allowing him to retry and learn from his errors.

Subaru Natsuki is a NEET who is unexpectedly brought to a world that resembles fantasy. Barely having arrived, he is killed attempting to rescue a young half-elf that he meets and becomes friends with, Emilia, who is a potential next ruler of the Kingdom of Lugunica, to come back to life several hours earlier. After dying a few times, Subaru discovers that he can rewind time after death. After successfully assisting Emilia, Subaru begins residing in one of the Mansions of Roswaal L. Mathers as a butler. In appreciation and love for Emilia, Subaru uses his new power to defend her and assist in her quest to be successfully appointed as the future queen, also assisting other friends he acquires in the process, suffering at the same time due to the agony caused on him each time he dies, and dragging with him the memories of all that transpired prior to his power kicking in, which is forgotten by everyone else except him.
