Since a young age, Haruka Sakura was an oddball because of his unusual looks and antisocial behavior. Despite this, the cruel treatments he endured toughened him up to be a great fighter, and that is what he stands proud of today. Since joining Furin High School, where it is said that brawn is more important than brains, Sakura has just one aim—to become the greatest. Following a street fight the previous day, Sakura encounters some of his prospective classmates. Rather than rejecting him, his classmates battle together with him, indicating that the true concern of the school is safeguarding the town of Makochi from injury—therefore the name Bofurin given to the students. Amazed at the townspeople's support and appreciation, Sakura finds it difficult to believe their goodwill. While he has never known others being kind to him, he has to learn to cope with his unease when Bofurin is being opposed by powerful enemies. Having once known the sense of being accepted, he battles for the sake of others for the very first time.
